Q.:I'm looking for the best plan for my invisaline braces. I have no dental insurance now. The check ups alone cost me a couple of $100, the whitenings I need are $100 and the cleanings are extra.
I am not sure what invisaline braces cost but it is in the thousands, maybe a couple thousand dollars. That is really all the services I need, I'm well covered for doctors visits and hospitals. I am in no immediate pain however I know I need invisaline braces asap. This is not just because of the way my teeth look. It is because I feel some cavities and a few problem teeth I developed are due to my teeth being the way they are.
E. C., Whitesburg, Georgia
A.: Dear E. C., Yes, you can reduce the price of your invisaline braces. Since you are in a hurry I would recommend to sign up with one of the reduced-fee-for-services dental plans. You will be able to go see a dentist or orthodontist as soon as you receive the package with the cards. And you will be able to use the card immediately with no deductibles. Being in the relative vicinity of the Atlanta, Georgia, area, you will have no problem finding a suitable dentist or orthodontist that will be able to equip you with your invisaline braces. Most reduced-fee-for-services dental plans that you will have an opportunity to choose from will also include significant discounts, as much as 50-60% on teeth whitenings and of course regular checkups and cleanings. Enjoy your savings!

Invisalign Insurance or Invisalign Dental Plan
Q.: I need a supplemental dental plan. I currently have United Concordia. That plan covers just about anything but it doesn't cover invisalign braces for me. So I am looking for invisalign insurance.
I have got a quote already. The invisalign braces will cost me $5,000 without coverage. I need no other services but would like my invisalign braces started by the end of December this year.
M. S., Newport News, Virginia
A.: M. S., You sound determined that you want your invisalign braces and invisalign insurance right away. So you want a plan with no waiting periods, and no exclusions like United Concordia. At least no exclusions for invisalign braces. Normally most dental plans carry a waiting period for braces or invisaligns. If you purchase them on an individual basis, outside a larger group, the waiting periods are typically one to two years. You can avoid waiting periods like that by purchasing a supplemental discount dental plan.
With a plan like that you will receive immediate savings on orthodontics, and there will be no limits on services providing you visit a participating provider/orthodontist or general dentist that does braces or invisaligns. The choice is up to you, depending on how long you want to wait before you get started straightening your teeth and getting your perfect smile back!

Dental Insurance for Braces: Does It Make Sense to Drive 40 Miles to Save $2000?
Q: The reason why I want braces is because it just makes it easier to keep my teeth clean. I am 35 years old, not a teenager and this is not peer pressure or vanity! I have seen that some plans on the internet will offer 25% discount for my braces. However I will have to drive 40 miles to get to the dentist! I would pay more just for the gas! A dentist here in Carmel has given me a quote of $6200 for my braces. I don't think driving 40 miles makes any sense for me. What else can I do?
C. X., Carmel, California
A: Dear C. X., You are making a great point as far as the costs. As much as I know Carmel is a very pretty and expensive coastal city. It makes sense that braces cost more there than elsewhere. Now as far as your question, you'll have to do the consideration on your own. Do you always stay in Carmel? Do you ever drive to a bigger city like San Jose or Monterey? Even with just 25% savings you are looking at well over $1500 in savings. Because of what I said above, the savings will probably be more like $2000! Now consider that you would have to drive back and forth once a month for your braces adjustments. Or consider that maybe you wouldn't have to drive that many times because there are types of braces that require less time to wear for the same effect. So there are several variables. In your situation, I would consider all options before I would discard a $2000 in savings! Yes, Consider the price of gas, but also consider how many times you drive out of town anyways for unrelated reasons. Have fun with your math!

Need Dental Braces Again, Adult Dental Braces This Time
Q: I had braces before but my teeth are becoming crooked again. Being 25 years old, I need adult braces at this time. I think the reason why this happened is because my back teeth, the wisdom teeth, are coming in full force. I have Plan Plus at this time, but I am not even sure it covers surgical extractions let alone braces. I really want to put braces on again. But first I want the extractions. What additional plan do you recommend for braces?
M. D., Peoria, IL
A: Dear M. D., isn't that something! I don't know many people who would joyfully to go through the braces process all over again. But you seem really serious. There are plans out there that will cover dental braces for adults. In fact, statistics show that in the USA, 25% of all dental braces are used by people 19 y/o or older. In other words, adults. Pick a plan that has no waiting periods, low or no deductibles, and that doesn't exclude adult braces. There are not that many such plans but I'll give you some pointers below. The plans will all cover wisdom teeth extractions as well in case you need additional coverage.

Dental Plans for Dental Braces
How To Get Dental Insurance for Braces. Current Insurance Does Not Cover Braces.
I have no insurance at the place where I work currently. I have no medical insurance to be exact. I do have dental insurance. I am paying $8/week or about $35 a month for my dental insurance. I'm okay with the dental insurance because it covers basic services and it paid for my root canal. The root canal would have cost me over a $1000 but I only paid $250 out of pocket. However,
now I decided I wanted to get dental braces for myself. I have been thinking about the braces for the longest time. However, financially, there was always something stopping me from getting braces. Last year my parents needed me to send them money to pay for their hospital costs, just as an example. I feel now is the time for me to take care of myself for a change. I decided this year when I get my tax return will be a great time to get started with my braces. I have been wanting them for the longest time. The funny thing is, my dental insurance covers just about anything but braces. So I am looking at about $5000 out of pocket without any additional coverage. Can you recommend maybe an additional dental plan that would cover braces?
Z. K., Nashville, TN
Dear Z. K., I commend you for being a person with a big heart. You seem to be the kind of a person who is helping everyone else first and then helping yourself last. I am happy for you that it is finally your turn. What you need is a comprehensive dental plan that will have no restrictions on braces and orthodontistry. The restrictions are also called exclusions. You don't want that. You may even want to think about totally replacing the plan that you have now and is costing you $35/month. That is over $400/year! And since the tax season is coming soon, you don't want long waiting periods with your plan. I will list a few suggestions below for the plans that you can choose from. I can tell your teeth are the most important subject for you right now and you may feel young and invulnerable. Have you thought of getting medical coverage as well? What if some accident happens to you and you end up in an emergency room or in a hospital? And later become burdened with a large hospital bill. It will be much harder for you to help your parents and others if your financial situation worsens like that! So I will include links to the inexpensive plans that could rescue you financially if you ever need to see a medical doctor or if you end up in a hospital. Good luck!
